The reliable partnership between Azerbaijan and Germany is developing comprehensively and on a rising line.

The meetings held within the framework of the business trip to Germany by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and his speech at the High-Level Segment of the "15th Petersburg Climate Dialogue", where he participated, shed light on the past, present and prospects of the relations between the two countries.
One of the main directions of Azerbaijan's foreign policy is cooperation with European countries. Germany is one of the most important political and economic partners of Azerbaijan in Europe. It cannot be overlooked that these relations have successfully developed in various fields in the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The business visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Germany on April 26, the issues discussed in the meetings held within the framework of the visit in accordance with the challenges of the modern era are currently being widely analyzed in the national and world press. During the visit, the head of state had one-on-one and extensive meetings with German President Frank Walter Steinmeier and German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholtz. He also participated in the High-Level Segment of the "15th Petersburg Climate Dialogue" held in Berlin.
After the National Leader Heydar Aliyev returned to power at the insistence of the people in 1993, the establishment of stability and a normal business environment in our country played an important role in the development of economic relations. With the signing of the "Contract of the Century" in 1994, the foundation of Azerbaijan's integration into the world economic system was laid. It is enough to pay attention to the chronology of Azerbaijan's successes in the energy sector from that time to today. "Of course, energy security issues are of particular importance in today's world, and I think they are at the forefront of the world agenda. Azerbaijan's rich oil and gas resources allow it to be a reliable partner for Europe for many years to come - at least a hundred years from now in relation to natural gas. The leadership of the European Commission calls Azerbaijan exactly that: a reliable partner. These views of the head of state Ilham Aliyev are a presentation of the growing role of Azerbaijan in ensuring the energy security of the world.
During his speech at the High-Level Segment of the "15th Petersburg Climate Dialogue" held in Berlin, Head of State Ilham Aliyev drew attention to the successes of our country's energy diplomacy and stated that our oil and gas, as well as European markets, will be needed for many years to come. In 2022, the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the field of energy was signed between the European Union and Azerbaijan, and our supply of natural gas to the European Union is increasing: "This was the request of the European Commission. We answered positively. Currently, half of our natural gas exports, especially 12 billion cubic meters, go to the European Union market. According to the mentioned Memorandum, our export to the European Union should reach 20 billion cubic meters by 2027. We all understand that in this geopolitical situation, this issue is a manifestation of Azerbaijan's responsibility, because we are investing heavily in increasing our gas production, and Europe needs more gas from new sources. At the same time, our green agenda began to be implemented even before the COP29 decision."
This year, Azerbaijan will host the prestigious event - COP29. During the meetings held by Mr. Ilham Aliyev within the framework of his business trip to Germany, and at the same time in his speech at the mentioned event, the main issue that was highlighted was the hosting of COP29 by our country. President Ilham Aliyev and Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholtz made a joint statement to the press, and COP29 was the main issue highlighted. "Mr. President, your visit today is mainly within the framework of climate policy, and Azerbaijan has assumed the presidency of COP29, that is, it will be the host. Important decisions were made in Dubai within COP28. Therefore, until 2030, renewable energy should be tripled, energy efficiency should be doubled, and methane emissions should be reduced," said Olaf Scholtz, who also noted that by 2030, the share of wind, solar and hydropower in Azerbaijan's energy sector should be increased by 30 percent. it is very good news. There is great potential in the region for cooperation in the fields of green energy and hydrogen energy, and German companies are interested in cooperation in Azerbaijan. Such certainty was also expressed that the World Climate Conference to be held in Baku will bring great opportunities for the region. Azerbaijan plays a very big role in the energy security of Europe and is an important partner.
The reality is that Germany is one of the countries with which Azerbaijan develops its relations year by year as a reliable partner in Europe. Official Baku attaches special importance to Germany's support in the process of integration into the Euro-Atlantic space and close cooperation with the European Union. The Federal Republic of Germany, being a country that plays an important role in the world economy and politics, supports the expansion of cooperation with Azerbaijan in all fields. Let's also mention that the results of President Ilham Aliyev's first official visit to Germany in 2004 once again confirmed the greater potential for cooperation. A number of agreements signed during the visit opened wide opportunities for economic cooperation.
Germany accepts Azerbaijan as an important partner in the South Caucasus, fully supports the leading position of our country in the region, as well as its sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Special attention was paid to these issues in the meeting of President Ilham Aliyev with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The head of state Ilham Aliyev stated that it was the Azerbaijani side that initiated the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The fundamental principles forming the basis of the peace agenda were formulated and presented by Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani side also prepared the text of the peace agreement based on this. The head of state noted that the meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia held with the support of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz within the framework of the Munich Security Conference, there were positive discussions on delimitation and demarcation issues and the advancement of the peace agenda. President Ilham Aliyev also drew attention to the fact that the next meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan to continue negotiations on the peace treaty will be organized in Kazakhstan at the suggestion of the Kazakh side. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier noted that the German side closely supports the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan and will continue to support it.
A brief analysis of the said visit of Mr. Ilham Aliyev gives grounds for such a generalization that this visit is a clear indicator of the comprehensive and upward development of the reliable partnership between Azerbaijan and Germany. It can be said with certainty that this visit will give a significant boost to raising cooperation in all fields to a higher level, and will open great prospects for future development. Olaf Scholtz, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, said: "You have visited Germany four times in the last 14 months. The last time you came to the Munich Security Conference was in February. This shows that there are many topics to be discussed" by Mr. Ilham Aliyev, "Recently, German-Azerbaijani relations are experiencing a period of rapid development. I was here in March last year, two months ago we met Mr. Chancellor in Munich. The two-way diary is quite extensive. The development of German-Azerbaijani relations is of great importance both for our countries and for the development and stability of the South Caucasus as a whole."
